I've never made it to the famous Le Bec Fin upstairs, but this less expensive, less formal sister restaurant in the basement is still one of the best French restaurants I've experienced. The cozy bar area actually has a romantic feel to it almost as if you are being treated to a private meal. The service was impeccable, but most certainly less pretentious than upstairs. I had an impressive feast of steak tartare, pomme frites, rabbit with foie gras, figs and blue cheese, and the automatic (at least when I went) trio of chocolate pastries that they are famous for. The sommelier was a little stuffy at first, but he livened up to be quite a character. The Pinot Noir from Beaune he suggested was able to hold up to the game and heavy fare we had, yet it was elegantly light, which was perfect for the hot and humid summer we had that day.
