Lava Hostel Hafnarfjordur Reviews
Welcome campers… Aug 24, 2014
Not a bad place if you like peace and quiet, or if you recently passed away. Honestly difficult to gripe about Lava Hostel, but it paled in comparison to the vibrant scene we had just departed at Kex.
Positioned at a great location, Lava Hostel lies conveniently near Reykjavik, just off the main drags but quite near downtown Hafnarfjordur and its attractions. Featuring low rates and comfortable accommodations there shouldn’t be much to complain about, but of course I can.
The hostel is just a bit too goody two shoes for my liking. The spacious lounge area was always populated by kids with PC’s and cell phones, all painfully quiet. It fostered an atmosphere where everybody whispered. I’m not kidding – it was like living in a library! The walls are slathered with honest to goodness Boy Scout memorabilia, so first impressions proved correct. Indeed, the large field behind the hostel offers camp sites!
They honestly have all the bases covered. Our room and all common areas were spotlessly clean. The kitchen was amply provisioned with cooking / dining gear and washing machines are available (though we did not use these, appearances lead me to conclude they put Kex facilities to shame).
One of our motivations for bookng Lava was that it was only ten minutes from downtown Reykjavik, but on the way towards Keflavik. The airport is only a half hour away. If you don’t have rental wheels it is a pleasant stroll to the bus stop. A super bargain for the low daily rates!
