Old Western Saloon Surprise Aug 01, 2011
We took the few kilometer trek from Drumheller to Wayne to visit this saloon. It is an old saloon that has been standing since the days of the cowboys and the old west. Parts of the movie Shanghai Noon with Jackie Chan were filmed there.
This place has bullet holes in the walls, and if you order a steak you grill it yourself on one of their outdoor BBQs.
We just wanted to see the place and have a beer, so we stopped in. As we entered the place was dingy looking. The walls were littered with new and old signage, mostly old. From long since forgotten alcohol brands, to different tobaccos popular in their era. This place was like a trip back in time, except of course their VLT machine.
Our beer came served in a mason jar, similar to how it has been done since they opened over a century ago. The beer was black label which is a bitter beer. We decided to try the wings, and were surprised that they were some of the best we've had. The other folks in the bar were eating what appeared to be very good meals.
This place is definitely worth a visit if you are in the Drumheller area. Don't forget to check out the 11 one way bridges you have to cross to get there. Also, across the road there is a great hike up the valley.
