Las Olas Mexi-Q Grill Wilmington Reviews
Arriba, arriba! Jun 15, 2013
Here in Wilmington we are blessed by a small chain of restaurants specializing in “Baja” Mexican fare. It all started with K-38 Baja Grill in 1994, the success of that venture spawning three additional local eateries over the years. Las Olas Mexi-Q Grill is the newest addition, opening its doors in 2012.
Las Olas deliveries a wonderful variety of Mexican plates and has a reputation for creative drinks: though I’ve never sampled their sangria, several friends rave about it (and they apparently make this killer lemonade strawberry mixed drink). Throw in competent service and a hip décor to make this a quality food stop. The interior is almost chic, and invokes a Mexican atmosphere without being tacky (i.e., nary a sombrero to be seen). There is also a fairly substantial outdoor dining area, which can prove valuable as this joint can get really packed.
But on to the food. Their barbecue and shrimp tacos receive accolades from all takers, and they make their own gluten-free corn tortillas. Even though I don’t partake, their corn cakes with prickly pear honey butter consistently spawn smiles. Stopped in for lunch today as I was running errands in the neighborhood and opted for a barbecue salad. Absolutely dynamite, a very nice portion that did not skimp on the meat. The diversity of selections, all tasty, and reasonable prices makes Las Olas one of my top casual dining spots in Wilmington!
