Hot springs in the clouds May 23, 2012
I really like bathing in the warm natural springs, and if there is an opportunity, I definitely use it.

Fuentes Georginas were almost totally destroyed in 2010 after the strong storm buried the pools and destroyed the road and bridge at the entrance.

Everything is now fixed and it is possible to drive car all the way to the springs. Be careful because there are at least 10 spots where half of the road is missing or got "eaten" by the land slides.

Georginas have bunch of cabanas where you can stay, and there is also an restaurant. From the complex there are couple tracks that you should explore because they take you through beautiful cloud forest.

Thermals are three pools that share water from the spring. First, and the largest one, is on the top and it is way too hot to bath in... I tried to walk in, but my feet were burning so bad, that I had to go out. Other two pools are run-of from the big one, and water there is not that hot. There are pipes bringing a bit cooler water, so you can go under them if it is too hot for you.

Whole place is well organized and maintained. Entrance to the springs is 50Q per person and transportation varies. You can take one of the tourist agencies that will charge you around 60Q for round trip. They wait for you few hours and than bring you back to Xela. Alternatively you can take bus to Zunil, and than catch the ride with one of the farmers, and for the way back you could hitch the ride with someone coming down.

Really nice place, worth visiting !

Nice they have the run-off ways for choice. Not everyone likes real hot and too much steamy. Good review.

a taste of paradise. Mar 04, 2011
I would recommend a day trip to Las Fuentes Georginas to pretty much anyone. Just the ride up there is so beautiful - amazing views, amazing scenery. Once you are there it is just the most relaxing and beautiful place to be. The hot springs are so nice, they were the first hot springs I've ever been in so I had nothing ot compare to but I loved it. I went with a few great friends and really enjoyed it. I paid 50Q for the trip, transportation back and forth and I found it was totally worth it. Go enjoy yourself at Las Fuentes Georginas

Ok, it's best to bring your own food because the restaurant is pretty lousy and overpriced, but other than that, this was a really cool experience. You take a chicken bus to Zunil, which is really cheap (about Q5), and then hop into the back of a pick-up for the mind-blowing ride up to the top. I think we might have gotten over-charged, but the two of us paid Q80 for a return-trip ride. Whatever, it was awesome. The springs are really cool (not temperature-wise, though!), and it's neat to float around in natural volcanic hot springs in a secluded mountain nook. There were a lot of hippy-type people, though, giving each other very serious water massages and playing strange-looking instruments and stuff. Didn't really bother us, and I don't know if it's usually like that, but might not be some people's cup of tea...

Hahahaha, the thing about the hippies playing weird instruments made me laugh so hard. when i went, i saw none of this which really kind of upsets me! but oh well! you definitely got fucked with the price though, we paid a travel company or whatever who took us from the park right up to the falls for 50Q each. no chicken bus, yay! haha. but loved the experience, so nice!
