This castle is the only one in the country and was built by William Larnach for his wife in 1871.
The castle, on the Peninsula can be visited by day and can be hired out for occasions (my parents were married here). You can wander at leisure about the castle and grounds or go on a guided tour and learn a bit about the history. It is said the castle is haunted.  Part of the New Zealand - Born and Bred travel blog
