Lapu-lapu is a city to the southeast of Cebu City that spans Mactan island (excluding Cordova), Olango island, and a few smaller islets. It is also known as Opon to the natives.

Lapu-Lapu is named after the First National Hero (Datu Lapu-Lapu) who fought with his tribesmen against the Spaniards in 1521 and defended the country. However, Datu Lapu-Lapu disappeared after the Battle and no one can trace where he went and how he died. The Battle is Famously called the Battle of Mactan and to this day the natives still celebrate the reenactment every 27th of April at the Mactan shrine, where a huge statue of Datu Lapu-Lapu stands tall.
