Lapland is not a country in itself, but a region of northern Europe. It is mostly in the Arctic Circle, northern Norway, Sweden, Finland and some of Russia.

Lapland is home only to about 3.6% of the Finnish population and is by far the least densely populated area in the country. The biggest towns in the Finnish Lapland are Rovaniemi (the provincial capital), Kemi, and Tornio. Of the more than 185,000 inhabitants, less than 5% are Sami people.

Lapland is, of course, famous for the Santa Claus village, near the town of Rovaniemi on the Arctic Circle. It is an enchanting winter wonderland where you and your family can go in search of Santa Claus.

Stepping off the plane the steps were icy and the runways were surrounded by snow. It was getting darker too. We arrived at the airport and began our trip. Lapland with Esprit and worked as a Lapland Ranger. Providing christmas atmosphere to children, making sure everyone was happy. Has to be the best job I have ever done!! I got to do so many things that I thought I could only dream of. Like one day I got to drive huskies all day!!!! And I had some reindeer rides and led the reindeers round and went tobogganning down a 2.4km toboggan ride. And saw Santa on christmas day and the best, best bit was I saw the Northern Lights!! Pink + green! AMAZING!
