After the much-needed "power" nap, we were all feeling recharged. Our hosts invited us for an Ilocano breakfast that they cooked for us. We were all as delighted as we can be to see various Ilocano foods which we can only eat at some specialty restaurants in Manila. Bagnet (deep fried native pork) has been one of my ultimate favorite dishes. Having that alone was already a great joy, but Vigan Longganisa, Pan de Sal sa Pugon and Tortang Talong are foods I can’t just ignore. It w…

After seeing the Paoay church and Marcos Mausoleum, we decided to go back to Laoag - to check out interesting place their. I had nothing specific that I want to see in Laoag honestly. After 20 minutes ride from Batac, we were dropped near the Provincial Hall. We went first to the Museo Ilocos Norte. This museum is a showcase of Ilokano culture featuring the heritage of a "sturdy, hard-working people known for their industry, resourcefulness and loyalty." Nicknamed 'Gameng,' the museum is ho…

My relatives from my maternal side are some of the few Ilocanos in Nueva Ecija (which is a majorly Tagalog province), whose ancestors were settlers from Ilocos. Therefore, there would be a lot of similarity in the culture, especially the fact that we speak t…

Back in Laoag, we came across the Museo Ilocos Norte. We hadn't really planned on it, but since we were there and it was still open, we gave it a go. It's rather small, but in comparison to the dismal Marcos Museum we had just seen, this place was more like the Met. The Gameng Museo Ilocos (the name it's locally known by) exhibits the culture, heritage and lifestyle of the Ilocanos. It even has a model ancestral house inside that's realisitically decorated, giving one an authentic feel of pro…
