Lanuza - a must-see eco-tourism destination May 22, 2008
The Municipality of Lanuza which is in the province of Surigao del Sur is a surfer's paradise, with ten surfing grounds all boasting of a wide variety of waves which are ideal for long board surfing. The waves can go up to 15 feet. The best time to surf would be from November to January, when heavy rains occur.
Tourists love it there because it's not crowded, the people are very hospitable and it has one of the best beach breaks ideal for surfing.
For non-surfers (like me), there are many things the place can offer:
Magkawas Falls and Green Paradise
Lanuza Marine Park and Sanctuary (my favorite)
Lanuza Agsam Craft (great for souvenirs and affordable too)
Centennial Ancestral House
Lanuza is part of the CARCANMADCARLAN towns of the province and can be reached either from Butuan City, Surigao City or Davao City.
When you are traveling from Butuan or Surigao, you'll pass by the town of Bad-as and pass the Red Mountain thru the zigzag road known as NUBENTA which offers a very scenic view on both the seas and mountains of Surigao.. This trek I love so much although it is not recommended to travel at night because of the dangerous curves. From Butuan City, travel will be 7 hours while Surigao City, travel will be 4 hours..
On the other hand, when you are traveling from Davao, you'll pass by Agusan del Sur (San Francisco) and Bagobo, Lianga all the way to Tandag (capital of Surigao Sur) and to Cortes. Travel time will be 9 hours (by bus).
If you have your own transportaion, you'll save more or less two hours depending on the route you'd take.
But hey, the transportaion going there is worth it my friends.. Lanuza (for 8 consecutive years) has been awarded as the CLEANEST and GREENEST municipality in the entire Philippines.
Plus, its neighboring towns also had many wonders to offer..
