Lantaren Venster Rotterdam Reviews
A brand new movietheatre - cafe - restaurant Oct 20, 2010
The official opening has yet to come (beginning of november 2010), but last week the new Lantaren/Venster already opened with a Japanese filmfestival: Camera Japan.
Lantaren/Venster has been a stage for music, theatre and movies for over a century. The old location was a cozy one in the west of Rotterdam, but now they have moved to a brand new place on the so called 'Kop van Zuid', away from the city center which in my eyes is a huge loss. The building ofcourse is spacious and new, it still smells like paint. The new seats are way better than the old ones (but why is the cupholder on such a weird place??) The legspace is great.
Downside to me is the interior of the lobby and restaurant: think white, more white, loads of light, some red, and Ikea like furniture. It just doesn't feel like a (cozy) cinema anymore, but more like just a place to watch a movie and leave, like the other cinemas in town. And where is the cinemaroom with the couches?
A plus are the movies on offer, which are more arthouse, live jazz music, and a huge sunny terrace outside.
Maybe in tim I will start liking the new place, but for now it's just an out of the center pretty standard movietheater.
