Lanna Samui Koh Samui Reviews
Koh Samui-Lanna Samui May 26, 2014
Stayed at the Lanna for 2 days during the New Years. Moved from another resort due to unavailability of rooms.
The booking and check in was smooth. Even got a mail from Edward before we arrived asking if any assistance was required. Much appreciated.
The location of Lanna is not an ideal one if you are looking to be in the middle of all the action, but the hotel does make an effort by providing shuttle service and a tuk-tuk to help you get to the main road, better to rent a bike or car if you are staying here. Although you can get to the main area ( Chaweng) within 20 minutes, late night rides into the property can be a little harrowing as the roads leading to the hotel are a little desolated with no lights in many stretches of road, safety is not an issue we felt quite safe riding up and down the road, but visibility can be a problem riding a bike on sandy stretches of road which are unlit and also a few blind corners asking for accidents to happen with speeding motorists. The shuttle runs only at fixed times so does not give you the flexibility.
We stayed in a one bedroom penthouse. The rooms are immaculate and very very well equipped for long term stays. It comes with a living area, a separate bedroom and a fully equipped kitchen. there is also a large TV with a good selection of channels, you probably don't need it on a holiday but just in case. Large cupboards give you adequate storage room, it is more like a condo and you feel at home immediately. Room service and house keeping is good. The only complaint was internet which was non-existent, if you are the kind who needs to constantly connected to work emails, this might not be ideal, it was a nightmare for me and at times I had to use the roaming data on my phone.
We loved the pool, although on our short stay we dint use it but all the rooms have a view of the pool and it is a very very large pool, would have loved to swim in it, may be next time, the built in stone loungers are a nice touch. Well lit at night.
Apart from the breakfast, we did not get to eat here, but the layout of the restaurant is nice with a nice view of the pool and landscaping which even if minimal is really nice. The ambience of the restaurant is very nice, we specially loved the wood crafted ceiling fans, very unique, tropical setting.
The reception could have been a little larger, we initially could not even find it as it looked like a shop in front of the hotel, at times it was very very crowded with guest checking in and out.
The staff make a genuine effort to make you feel at home, very helpful. Alex, Edward and the ladies at the front desk and restaurant were excellent as was the GM who makes an effort to mingle around with the guests at breakfast and even helping out his staff during busy hours. A few of the staff could put in a little bit more of an effort, especially the young lady, I think Laura was her name, without going into more details, she looked like a trainee, probably needs more training. But over all the staff were excellent -from housekeeping to the restaurant to the front desk.
If you just want a nice place for a long stay, or are on a short business visit, then this is it, if you are on are on a holiday and want to be by the beach with a view of it from your room or easy access to the nightlife, you should find somewhere elsewhere. If this property were on a beach close to the main area it would have been perfect, but I guess then it would loose its tranquility, but then again it is only my opinion and opinions are subjective! For a long term stay I would stay here again and would not hesitate to recommend it to others.
Room Tip: Most if not all of the rooms have a view of the pool, if you can get something on the higher floor y...
