a fun and mellow nightlife Jan 26, 2015
Decided to go on a trip by buying ticket from KL to the seaside state caller 'Perlis' and from there you take a 1 and a half hour ferry straight to Langkawi island. Once you see the big eagle sculpture you are there! After getting of the ferry you can take a cab to the beach first to find a cheap vila just few steps away from the beach. (Price = RM50 deposit and another RM50 per night which would be around 30$ give or take). we actually got a wooden vila for 5 people around 150$ for 3 nights.

Any sort of entertainment is provided on the beach, like, banana boat, jet ski, and etc. There are also few beach bars making you delicious beers!

For those who would like to relax and get rid of the work for few days, I would recommend to take a tour on Langkawi island at least once!

Firstly, the locals are very warm and helpful.

Dedicate a day to visit skybridge , cable car, water balloon, etc

Catch a ferry ride to the island nearby for scuba and snorkeling , capturing the heavenly scenes around.

Pentai Cenang beach lane has relexology to offer, not to miss parasailing.

Sunba the perfect night club to let lose after a long day.

Grab the Durinas & Rangoostan fruits.

The love of the beach & freshness, Tax free zone! Feb 06, 2014
1. Pronounced as Chenung, it has nice sand, clean water, friendly local folks, no pushy sales personnel and loads of local delights. Must try is the 'ROJAK', Langkawi fruit salad with black shrimp sauce & refreshing coconut juice.

2.There are a lot of boat trips out to this island throughout the morning. The island is home to a lot of wild monkeys who love to try to snatch bags. It is famous for its fresh water lake which is in the middle of the island. Even though there is an opening to the sea, miraculously no sea water comes in. You can swim in it if you like. The trip to the lake involves steep steps, so be advised.

3.The sunset dinner cruise is quite possibly the ultimate way to savour Langkawi Island’s raw lush beauty. Hop onto this cruise ship and spend some time ‘riding the waves’ Jacuzzi-style via a trawling net before you sample some simply sumptuous barbecue fare. Later sip on a cocktail, from the open bar, and kick back, relax and take in the sights of some of Langkawi’s most beautiful islets. It’s the perfect way to enjoy a romantic evening with your partner

Behind it all, white-sand beaches are the number-one attraction on Langkawi, and this is where tourists pass most of their time. Pentai Cenang is the most popular, followed by its neighbor, Pantai Tengah. These beaches boast all of the facilities and water sports expected, while quieter beaches on the north coast are remote and laid-back.

Snorkeling is popular around the resorts and outlying islands, but the best opportunities await scuba divers. Diving tours regularly connect to Payar Island where an excellent deep-water environment is found. Vibrant coral gardens are also found around Payar Island in an area conducive to both snorkeling and diving.

Another popular pastime for vacationers is boating, whether it's joining an island-hopping tour or chartering your own yacht. There are more than a hundred islands in the vicinity, giving mariners more to do and see than time permits. There are four marinas around the island, the biggest of which is the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club.

The interior mountains are ideal for hikers, and they offer fantastic lookouts. The best trekking is from Seven Wells Waterfalls, with a tour agency onsite ready to lead the way. For highflying views without all the exercise, take the cable car to the top of Gunung Mat and take a stroll across the Sky Bridge, which is at nearly 2,300 feet elevation.

Several golf courses are found on the island. Langkawi Golf Club was the first, with its 18 holes and outstanding view. Gunung Raya Golf Resort sits at the base of Mt Raya and features a hillier, more challenging fairway. Golf Club Datai Bay is the third island course. It also faces the sea and enjoys an especially serene atmosphere.

The island supports a diverse night scene, from swanky lounges within the resorts to beach bars and booming clubs. Pentai Cenang is the best place to party, with a long stretch of open-air bars on the waterfront. The hippest place to dance, Chime Nightclub, is part of the Sheraton Langkawi complex.

Langkawi, the palace of brown eagles May 31, 2013
Langkawi, the palace of brown eagles

2 years ago, bored with the hectic tourist object and dont wanna like main stream tourists did, i planned to visit langkawi, in malaysia, instead of beaches in Thailand.

I wanna enjoy 'me time', get lost and enjoy the nature. As a person who grew up at big city, i never seen wild nature, especially eagles, one of bird species whoo looks like tough animal and often being symbol of states.

Langkawi name itself derives from 2 Malay's words; lang = eagle, kawi = brown.

Located in Kedah State in Malaysia, you can get there by flight from Singapore (Air Asia also fly to this spot) or any following State at Malaysia (Penang and Kuala Lumpur) The attractive site for tourist, not only the clean and beautiful beaches, but also the mangrove with its ecosystem.

Things to do or see in Langkawi :

1. Eco trip : mangrove trip, see the ecosytem in the mangrove, meet the cool monkeys and the rest habitat especially feeding and taking pictures of the brown eagles. I will never forget this experience, during the tour at small boats, our tour guide will explain about the mangrove and educate us with interesting way.

2. diving, snorkelling or beaching at "Pantai (=beach) Tengah" or "Pantai Cenang and Pantai Kok

3. sailing with yacht

4. culinary : please try "Orkid Ria" at Pantai Cenang, modern interior, clean (hiegenic) and yummy foods and "Fat Mum" at Pantai Tengah (house style)

Actually Indonesia also has mangrove trip such as at Kalimantan and Eastern Java, but maybe not many promotion and the community not really aware to actively take a great part to promote and maintain the environments

Enjoy the pics and have a nice and safe trip

All pics are taken by Sari Musdar
Lang = eagles, kawi = brown, voila…
monkeys at this swamp very "human"
bats not the batman :)
ohhhhh my god, i love sea food

Fun time at Langkawi Nov 13, 2012
I visited Langkawi Island recently, from November 13-15, 2012. I must admit that the trip was awesome and I had so much fun there. I travelled with my friends and there were 7 of us.We left Kuala Lumpur at 2am and arrived at the Kuala Perlis Ferry jetty at about 8am. It was a really long journey, so I suggest you to take the airplane instead. But, it would be great if you could travel by car, just to get the road trip experience.

We tried the Jet ski and it was a good and worth while experience. We actually went on a jet ski at dawn. I suggest you not to try this because it's kind of dangerous. I have no idea why I did it! LOL

The moment I fell into the water, I was a little panic (I can't really swim) so that explained why I was a little skeptical to join my friends for Jet ski. At least I did it and if I could do it again, it better be in the afternoon :)

Many tourists like us rented a motorcycle to get around the island. Some take the cabs instead. Watch out for your belongings. When going to the beach, make sure that you keep your valuables in a locker.

Sunset at the Langkawi beach is truly amazing. The weather has been very good too. Thanks to the weatherman!

As for night life, I recommend The Eagle Rock Cafe. I loved the place and the band that performed that night was awesome. I watched performances by "Chill Factory".

I would love to come back again if I had the chance. Cheers!

p/s don't forget to get your chocolate souvenirs before you leave :)

Langkawi - a place for everything Mar 14, 2011
Langkawi - a group of islands located on the most northern west-coast of Peninsular Malaysia and located under the jurisdiction the state of Kedah.

It comprises of 101 islands during low-tides and became 99 islands during high tide will capture your sense of nature at it offers the best of tropical island can offer you at a competitive price.

A holiday on this island is a perfect getaway for traveller to learn the life of the villagers where the inland area are surrounded by paddy fields.

Take your chance to learn the way of living in village, where enjoyment is never a request but comes by the times you trying it. Try Homestay, thats what we used to call in Malaysia.

Explore the sea life by visiting countless diving and snorkeling spot where coral reefs offers abundant marine life to wow visitors.

Night life is not a quite one if you choose to be in that way. Try Cenang Beach where many restaurants having its own theme to seduce you to try out dishes made locally including western foods. You decide!.

A holiday is not completed without souvenirs for your friends & relatives waiting at home. It is also a passport to show you've been there and not letting the experience to be only history but a memories to cherish for years to come. Souvenirs is located all around the island especially by the beach site and more prominently on the commercial area. You may want to bring back Langkawi Crystal, which you may compare it with Swarovski crystals in terms of value but not the sweet memories that comes with it.

Honestly, this place relatively build for the tourist. I am Malaysian and somehow the place look a bit different. The culture & lifestyle is largely affected by tourism. The island itself is nothing. But the small island around Langkawi is nice.

Beachy Heaven Aug 05, 2008
The island is the furthest north of Peninsular Malaysia, reachable by frequent flight connections out of KL,Singapore and Bangkok. Also by ferry from the mainland.

The beaches here are definitely better than Phuket or Bali, and accomodations range from 20USD/night to 600USD/night. Food galore especially around Cenang Beach area, and water sports also abundant. Towards the north are the truly captivating beaches, some commercialised but most private with crystal clear waters.

It's sunny all year round, although there is a rather unpredictable monsoon twice a year which kinda spoils the beachy feel!

Also of note is the duty free status of the island - a pack of cigarettes as cheap as 0.40USD and famously cheap alcohol - a bottle of whisky or vodka around 15USD compared to 100USD on the mainland.

Getting around is easy and scenic with cheap rented cars or better yet motorcycles. They built a cable car up to one of the mountains on the island, with observation decks at 2 levels, and a sky-bridge dangling above a cliff 1000 feet deep.Excellent view from the top!

Nightlife is more of a bar scene rather than clubs, with many, many up and running around the Cenang area, most of them owned and run by expats who fell in love with the island and never left. Restaurants also abundant with every type of food at any price range available!

What puts this place above Phuket and Bali is how ridiculously cheap it is,but don't expect a party or any lively nightlife! Best place after the sun sets - Raggae Bar @ Pantai Tengah, near Pantai Cenang.

p/s - Pantai means beach in Malay
