Lando & Lorie's Banay Banay Eatery San Jose Reviews
Not Just Good Food, But Value For Money Jul 31, 2012
Turo-turo is a fast food restaurant that is very common in the Philippines especially in suburban areas. This restaurant is not the usual restaurant with soft cushioned sofas, decorated tables, menu books, and uniformed personnel to welcome you with their scripted lines. Turo - turo is a Filipino word which means "to point" and that's where it derives its name. Contrary with the fine dining restaurant wherein you have to seat first and ask for menu book for your order, in turo - turo, you just have to point the food of your choice from a long glass covered counter first, then you sit, waiting for the food to be served. It takes only few minutes to have you served because the foods were already cooked, all they have to do is to keep it warm before serving them.
Lando and Lorie's Banay Banay Restaurant is just one among this type of restaurant. It is located along the highway of Banay Banay in the town of San Jose in Batangas. There are lots of foods to choose from, and all of them were prepared in traditional Filipino way. Like other turo - turo restaurant, they served meat - based dishes (like adobong baboy, sinigang na baboy, kare - kare, bulalo, etc), varieties of sea foods (like grilled tuna and mackerel, fried tilapia, sinigang na hipon, daing na dilis, etc), and arrays of vegetable dishes (like laing, ginataang langka, etc) and some other delicacies. From our order, I liked the bulalo most because of tenderness of beef meat. I also liked the taste of peanut butter in the kare - kare. The laing was a bit spicy but still passed my delicate palate. The coconut milk in ginataang langka made the taste perfect. The food is great indeed.
There is a wide parking area at the front and even at the back of the building.
Food counter is organized. Dining area is clean.
Floor area is spacious that can handle even a long queue. They even had a room or lounge for groups or big families.
The service is fair despite the busy servers.
The price is relatively cheap and affordable.
On the other side, it's a bit hot, a bit noisy due to the flock of crowded people. The toilet floor seems always wet.
Someone would say turo - turo is still a turo - turo but Lando and Lorie's is different from the rest of them that I've been to. They kept not just the good quality of food, but the low price as well. Theirs is not just a good food, but a good value for money.
(BTW, I would like to thank my longtime friend Alex Villamante and his beautiful wife Kaye for treating me here. So kind of you Pareng Alex).
