Landesmuseum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte Oldenburg Reviews
Preserving the cultural heritage of a small state May 17, 2015
When Lower Saxony became a unified state in 1946, each of its former states kept its state library and state museum.
The Oldenburg State Museum of Art and History (Landesmuseum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte Oldenburg) consists of three separate buildings which are accessible with one single ticket (6 EUR):
- Oldenburg Castle, once the official residence, is the major building.
- Augusteum, built in 1867 as first dedicated art museum in Northern Germany, displays 15th to 18th century paintings.
- Prinzenpalais, once the Grand Duke's private residence, now serves as art gallery for 19th and 20th century paintings
