Before driving back to Eindhoven, we decided to make the trip from Mainz to Heidelberg. An hour or so south of Mainz, around 3.5 hours drive back to Eindhoven. Nice city with nice castle ruins. Was only there for a short time during the day, so didn't get to see much of the rest of the town. Wound up spending one night here in Jan, 2006 on a trip to SAP in Walldorf with a big group of colleagues...but got in late and didn't even leave the hotel that night...

country although the nightlife is a little somewhat lacking, as in
there isn't really one.Still there are normaly plenty of festivals with

It was the birthday of a friend of my aunt's, so we all went to Gomaringen for a barbeque. Just about everyone there knew English, but very few actually attempted to speak it to me. They have excellent English, but sometimes feel it isn't perfect and so therefore are shy to use it! In most cases, their English is better than mine and I generally butcher my German. But everyone is polite and says how wonderful I speak it. Anyway, basically my uncle…

Heidelberg is mainly about 3 things; tourism, the University and US military installations. A great "romantic city," there's much charm in this old city along steep river shores.
The old town, or Altstadt, is located at the southern side of the Neckar River and is dominated by the ruins of Heidelberg Castle on the steep side of the Königstuhl hill.
In rain the city seems capped in clouds - proved positive by my rainy day photos. Hope you enjoy them and get a flavor of the city.

This was a little 2 1/2 hour trip we took to go and visit some friends of ours that just moved to Heidelberg. They live minutes away from Heidelberg in the nice town of Wiesloch, which we visited as well.
