Lanai City Vacation Guide
The island of Lanai is least populated of the main Hawaiian islands. There are roughly 3,000 residents on Lanai, the majority of them living in Lanai City. Lanai is known as the Pineapple Isle because it used to be the world’s foremost grower and exporter of pineapples. However, that changed in 1985 when Dole moved their pineapple operations overseas. Lanai is now known for their premier golf courses and their two resorts, Manele Bay and the Lodge at Koele.
There are a wide variety of activities for visitors, especially if you are staying at one of the resorts. Golfing, horseback riding, 4x4 adventures, snorkeling, visiting historical sites, etc... There is plenty to see and do on Lanai. Hulopo'e Bay is a great place to watch the spinner dolphins or, if you're here during the winter, watch the migration of the humpback whales.
Lanai City is accessible by air and by ferry service from Maui. There isn't any public transportation and very limited taxi service so you must either rent a vehicle or rely on the hotel shuttle service. Warning - it is expensive to rent a jeep. In Feb 2009 I paid $270 USD for a 2 day jeep rental.

Slept in fairly late. It was a rare luxury for me because my pets try to wake me in the morning in order to get fed. I have a cat that will head-butt the bottom of my feet in the morning. Over and over and over until I wake up. No fuzzy faces this morning. How nice.&nb…

Joyce has a huge, emotional connection to dolphins, and due to her rigorous shunning of witnessing them in captivity, she's never seen one up close and personal before because unless you live somewhere like Florida or Hawaii, the chance of seeing them in the wild is slim to none. Being a responsibl…

First time in a long time I have taken a vacation with the sole intention of relaxing in mind. It was fabulous! It's trips like this that allow one to appreciate nature in all its beauty.
