Located in the super famous French Quarter, LaMothe House is a great place to stay for budget traveler. For only $49+ (at the time, off season) you can get a great restful night in a French style room. They offer free sherry in the afternoon for guests and breakfast in the morning.
Within minutes you can walk to Bourbon Street, Royal Street, the French Market, The Cathedral, and Cafe du Monde. The hotel is very charming. It has a courtyard inside the property, a swimming pool, and a parking lot. My room was located in the courtyard on the first floor. The door and windows were decorated by beautiful plantation-style shutters. Just below the window a small group of plants was planted, making an impression of a residential place rather than a hotel. Inside the room, a four-post double bed was centered in the middle with side tables and antique lamps on each side. There was a TV, a chest and a closet. The bathroom was nice and clean. There was a pedestal sink, a small storage space, a tub, and the hot water ran nicely. The only comment that I would make about the room is that it is very small. It could only accommodate 2 people, no more. If you travel with children, you should get a bigger room. The room is so small that all the furniture, although elegant, seems to cramp. The AC unit worked well, but it was a split. In the room that small the unit was very loud. I woke up a couple times during the night because of the noise -- even though I set it on low. In any case, the hotel was a good deal for a short stay in New Orleans. Since I went out exploring the city during my visit, I didn't mind the small room. Besides, the breakfast service was good. It was served on the second floor by the reception. There was the standard coffee, tea, bagel, bread, milk, and fruit. I recommend this place because of the above reasons. Make sure you check with them before you come, however. It is an individual hotel, not a corporate or chain. Their computer had some glitch when I checked in. It originally stored the information that I would come the day after. But it was an off-season and apparently they had plenty of rooms available so the problem was fixed. |
