English style house Feb 12, 2013
Built during the nineteenth century by the ruling Holkar maharaja, this palace serves as a museum these days. However, the Holkar rulers still live in part of the palace. The façade looks very imperial and British-inspired, and it has the feel of an English aristocrat’s house. The gates were inspired by those at Buckingham Palace. Inside, the museum exhibits are of acceptable quality. The best bits include seeing the furniture and general layout of the rooms, as well as the impressive amount of stuffed wild animals on display (back in the days when attitudes to animal conservation were more relaxed). The entrance fee is very small and no pictures are allowed inside the house. This is rarely visited, but if you happen to be in Indore, it’s not a bad place to visit to kill some time!
