Most accomodation is in Tuk Tuk, Samosir Island.
Get there by boat from Parapet.
Nearby King Sidabutar grave, who adopted Christianity in Tomok, the king's image is carved on his tombstone, the tombs are 500 meters up a lane full of souvenir stalls.
Its a nice walk or a bike ride 5 km southeast from Tuk Tuk.
Also the 300 year old Stone Chairs in Ambarita where village matters were discussed and wrongdoers tried.
Get there with a nice walk or motorbikebike ride, about 4 kilometer northwest of Tuk Tuk.
The Museum Huta Bulon Simanindo at the northern tip of Pulau Samosir in Simanindo a nice small museum in a fine old traditional house showing in a very good display the Batak cultur, 5000 Rupies entrance fee (2012), at 10.30 am they do some Batak dancing, 30000 Rupies to see it.
From Tuk Tuk walk 3 km towards Tomok, at the mainstreet to the north wait for a Bemo/Minibus Rp 7000 or go by bike.
And the sulfuros Hot Spring with some restaurants near Pangururan (ask for "Mata Air Panas"). On the way to Pangururan there are many traditional Batak houses.

Beautiful Lake in Indonesia May 05, 2011
I have visited Lake Toba in North Sumatera, Indonesia. And it's very beautiful lake i've ever seen.
From Parapat you can use a boat to across the lake to another small island there, named is Tuk Tuk.
But they have also another island, Samosir.
You really have to travel here... it's one of a good reason to travel, if you ever visit Indonesia.

If you're visiting Medan, make sure to set aside at least 3 days in Lake Toba. As you start entering Kg.Parapat(where the lake is located at), you'll notice that your driver will start opening the windows to let you enjoy the cool air. Along the road to your destination when nearing, you will see lots of pine trees and reserve forest and lots of monkeys by the street. When we arrived at the Lake(it's a huge lake surrounded by hills of pine tree), there was a mystical feeling about this place. You would need to take a ferry to go to any one of the islands located in the middle of the lake.
The people in Lake Toba are called "Batak Tribe". They are the minority Christians who live in Indonesia. In the island, you'll be greeted by the friendly locals who take life simple and enjoy every moment of it. Family bonding is emphasized greatly here and it was one of the best traits i wanted to take back with me. :)
When in the island, be sure to go around the island to visits nice sculptures, hills, and active volcanic mountain. If you're a little more adventures, try the local drink(alcoholic) called "tuak" or coconut wine which hits you more than beer does.... :P They also have this thing called "Magic Mushrooms" which they claim can bring you to the moon. I did not dare try it as i was traveling with a girlfriend.
I certainly miss Lake Toba and would love to go there again and spent longer time there!
