What a great country:) but in 2months we saw and experienced a lot, bad and good:) but unfortunaly we didn't manage to go to Borneo and Sulawezi... its so big that archipelago:)

Its my home town,Lake Toba in North Sumatra.

While on a monitoring trip in March and April 2005 we took a 2 day break with collegues and travelled to Lake Toba. It is a beautiful place and it was surreal to visit that beauty after the death and destruction after the Tsunami. A breath of fresh air.

Since I already wrote too much about my jungle nightmare in Sumatra, I'll just post some photos and say that Sumatra is a fascinating place. I liked it so much that I'm going back to spend another month there later this autumn. Besides the incredible nature, unique culture and low prices, the people are friendly and they don't make you feel like a tourist. Its as 'real' as you can get, and you'd be missing out if you bypassed this gem during a trip thru Asia...

The largest volcanic lake in the world. Remote and private and very great if you want to mix with locals cos you might be one of the few tourists around (bargains galore!) Absolutely stunning scenery (don't go by my pics... it takes a real photographer to do the place justice)
