Lake Tekapo Scenic Resort Reviews
Fantastic View but expensive Aug 31, 2014
If you are traveling around the South Island and staying in holiday parks (camping) then this place is worth visiting.
The bad side is that it is a bit expensive, like Queenstown they have a captured tourist market with few other options for accommodation.
But just for one night to break up the trip it is ok.
Tekapo is only 4 hours from Christchurch so is a nice half way stop if you are going down to Queenstown or that area.
They are starting to follow Hanmer's lead by now provide a hot pool facility. They are quite nice and could be good when there is snow around, but for me the pools are not a patch on a Hanmer.
The Facilities are good with plenty of kitchen space, and the usual laundry, etc.
But the one thing that does stand out is the view.
But sometimes the view does come with a price, like most places on the Southern Alps, it can get cold.
There is normally snow on the mountains, so be warned and dress appropriately.
If it is just me I would stay a couple of hours at Tekapo and admire the view then drive on, but for most visitors you should stop here.
