This snowboarding day started at 3:30am when I woke to start getting ready. I slept at about 12:30am, yup just 3 hours of sleep, but that's okay I wasn't the designated driver for this day, so good thing it allowed me to take naps along the way up there and down back home. My friend arrived at about 4:15am to pick us up in his new H3 Hummer. First time for me to ride in one of those, so this ought to be fun right. 4:30am hit the clock (our official meeting time) and th...

We spent 5 days in Lake Tahoe taking in as much adventure as we could. We did well too! The first night we were in a forest during a controlled burn AT NIGHT, later we hiked and discovered a crystal clear frozen lake in the mountains that made you feel like you were walking on water, we also attended the Tahoe Adventure Film Festival and of course we snowboarded the mountains of Heavenly above our resort.

After being in Sacramento for only a month after moving from Las Vegas, we decided to take the dogs up to Lake Tahoe for the day and let them run around and play in the snow. I had never been to Tahoe before and I was warned that the snow levels were way down and it was not going to be as pretty as it should be at this particular time of the year. Although there was not much snow on the mountains, the part of South Lake we saw was gorgeous and I hope to go back up to explore ...

On a remote, jagged set of cliffs not far from Lake Tahoe, some rather peculiar caves are hidden beneath the landscape. Mountain bikers pass near them in the summer, and skiers enjoy the surrounding slopes in winter, both oblivious to their existence. They are known in local lore simply as the "ice caves". Relatively few people have ventured inside them, and I was lucky enough to discover them courtesy of a friend who visited the caves fairly often. When she told...

Michelle, Puppy and I went up to Reno for a weekend. When we all realized we didn't like to gamble, we hightailed it to Lake Tahoe. The resulting day was a drifty, snowy blur of blues and whites, of snow angels and stunning views.
We built a snowman, admired a snowy beach, threw ourselves into a snowbank and did all the things that San Franciscans only get to do when they go to Lake Tahoe in winter.
On the way back to Reno from Tahoe (Hwy 50 to 395, I think), these signs started popping u...

I have been to Lake Tahoe 3 times now, but this trip was the first time
I had gone in the summer. I went with my whole family and we rented two
condos right on the lake. It was amazing! We had two boats and were
constantly going to the beach, laying out, water-skiing, etc. We had a
shuttle that drove us to the main strip where the casinos and major
restaurants are. If you enjoy hiking, Tahoe is a great place to go.
There are hundreds of trails that take you to different, smaller lakes

A beautiful secluded waterfall up a mile and a half forest hike, with amazing granite flats and boulders. The weather was perfect for hiking - sunny, a little breeze, with temperatues in the 70's. The falls are mostly snow melt water - positively glacial! But it made for a very refreshing foot spa :)

Looking back, I can't believe we didn't initally plan to go to Lake Tahoe...it was an afterthought that ended up being one of my favorite parts of the trip. Getting there was beautiful. The mountains were amazing and then the lake...so breathtaking. Happily there are many places to park and walk and take it all in. It probably seems like this whichever way you go around, but it just seemed to get better as we went. I've never seen so many shades of blue and green...

Last summer I spent my family vacation in Tahoe, we hung at the beach, made it up Squaw Valley Resorts mountain face, and enjoyed some delicious 'Sneaky Bandito' margaritas during our stay. Tahoe is a low key spot-with a lot of outdoor activities and gorgeous terrain for play. Its relaxing and the lake is absoloutely beautiful.

Growing up in Michigan, I never understood why people liked skiing. We got plenty of snow, and there were some decent ski slopes way up north. But all I wanted to do in winter was go somewhere warm. It never made sense to me to drive somewhere even colder only to throw myself down a mountain in the snow. Then about 10 years ago, I went skiing for the first time in Lake Tahoe. On one of my runs down the hill, and woman skied by me wearing a cowboy hat and a bikini. In that exact moment, ...

So I decided to do some skiing last week and had a major fall, injuring my Tailbone!!! It is very painful to sit and I'm wondering how I'm gonna make it through the 22 hours flying. Guess I'll have to stock up on pain killers!

I could not have thought of a better way to spend my last few days before heading to Kenya than to be with almost all of my family including aunts, uncles, and cousins. We spent Labor Day weekend at a house in Incline Village (North side of Lake Tahoe on the Nevada side.) We rafted down the Truckee River, played on Seadoos on the Lake, watched movies, made S'mores around the camp fire, and did lots of eating, drinking, and laughing. All this in an absolutely gorgeous locatio...
