Lake Powell Reviews
Lake Powell, a jewel of a lake just a 4-5 hour drive north of Phoenix Sep 04, 2014
This is a bit far from Phoenix, but you might already be driving out of the city and going north to Grand Canyon and you might want to pass by the lake after. It is about a 4-5 hour drive from Phoenix, going north. From Prescott, it is just about 2-3 hours.
This reservoir of the Colorado River already straddles between the border of Arizona and Utah. The first time I saw this lake, it was a beautiful and shimmering crystal blue! I have fallen in love with it ever since and so would you.
Two million people visit this lake every year and it is the second largest man-made reservoir, by maximum water capacity, in the United States behind Lake Mead, storing 24,322,000 acre feet (3.0001×1010 m3) of water when full.
We like going to the beach areas and swimming there in the cool waters during the summer. There is really "no shade" so we bring umbrellas to keep cool from the punishing sun rays during summer. Of course boating and other water activities are popular here.
