Lake Powell Overview

Lake Powell is the result of damning the Colorado River in a narrow canyon a few miles south of the Arizona state line. Most of the origional lake streches across Utah to past UT 95 where you find Hite marina. Its a beautiful lake but an environmental disaster. (Maybe Ed Abbey was right).
Now the north part of the lake has gone dry with mudflats with the Colorado river so Hite marina was closed because the river is so low they cant access the river and certainly not the lake that isn't there any more. Funny, after Hite was dead the Park Service banned all camping at the north end and put up toll booths.
The southern Lake Powell is alive and well and has beautiful canyons there with boat rentals and boat tours.
