Lake Matano Overview
Lake Matano is situated in South Sulawesi, Indonesia. It is closed to Sorowako (or Soroako). The lake has almost 600 meters depth. It is the deepest in South East Asia and the eighth deepest in the world. The water is clear and calm. It is suitable for swimming or sight seeing using a raft.
The water is used to generate electricity for the people in Sorowako and the mining belongs to PT International Nickel Indonesia (PT INCO).
To reach the lake, people can go by bus from Makassar. It takes 12 hours. Or, take the flight from Makassar. It takes 1 hour.
