Lake Jarun is a manmade lake a few miles outside the city. It is a bit difficult to get to (I rode there on the back of a moped), but offers what is apparently some of the best nightlife in Zagreb. Many bars line the shores of the lake and tons of people come here to bar-hop all night. My favorite stop along this stretch was the Piranha Bar, a cool outdoor place with a bar centered around a giant fishtank full of real life pirahnas.
If you get bored of the bars, lots of people seem to just hang out along the shores of the lake and chill too. Part of the Eastern Europe 2006 travel blog

Inspired by the Edo Maajka song "Savske Meduze" (Jellyfish of the Sava River) and the subsequent find that there really ARE freshwater jellyfish in the Sava (Craspedacustra sowerbii), along with freshwater sponges and other unusual beasties... we headed out to Jadun Lake to search for… Lake Jarun |

…of sweltering summer sun and unpredictable sessions of heavy downpour as I head out (for free ;) by tram to walk around the large Jarun lake that sits besides the Sava river in the Southwest corner of Zagreb. Cyclists, joggers and rollerbladers breeze their way around. Kids jump from platforms into the waters shared with the odd windsurfer and duck. It rains hard and long at one point… Zagreb : 'All hail to King Tomislav, the President of Couchsurfia!' |
