Lake Baikal is located in Russia between the provinces Irkutskaya and Buryatia. The biggest city at the lake is Irkutsk, which is also the city you arrive in by train, when visiting Lake Baikal.
Lake Baikal is an enormous lake, which contains more fresh water than the great lakes in the North Americas together. Lake Baikal contains over 20% of all the fresh water in the world. The lake is 2,000 meters deep followed by 7,000 meters of mud. The temperature of the lake never rises above 9°C. The lake has a wide variety of life, even a seal lives in the lake, the only fresh water seal in the world. If you visit Lake Baikal, you should take a very short dive in it. The myth goes that you expand your life with 25 years.
