Lainston House Hotel Winchester Reviews
Excellent food and a lovely room- Shame about the cold jacuzzi! :( Jul 23, 2011
I stayed here on 23rd July 2011 with my mum after a days shopping in Winchester, and we both had a lovely time, despite a few things that could have been different.
We booked the 'fizz break' which included a glass of fizz (which we weren't offered), a three course meal in the brasserie (we weren't told we needed to ring reception and make a table booking), and use of the hotel's facilities- gym, pool, jacuzzi and sauna. We also paid £24 extra for bathrobes (which weren't comfortable), slippers (cheap and in a packet), enhanced toiletries (by kenji, quite nice) and internet access which i didnt take advantage of.. I wouldn't say it's worth paying extra for those things, bring your own dressing gown and slippers!!
The room was very clean, modern and nicely decorated with twin beds and air conditioning. The bathroom was also clean and modern, with a bath and a shower above it. Only negative was that our room overlooked the car park and we couldn't have the window open because of the constant noise of traffic and guests throughout the night.
We loved our meal in the evening, although the service was a bit slow, I had gorgeous leek and potato soup, fish for mains and a chocolatey dessert and have no complaints at all. There was a wide selection at breakfast, we sat outside on the terrace which was lovely apart from lots of wasps buzzing around people's leftovers- the tables could have been cleared a bit quicker. Drinks are expensive here, £6.50 for a cocktail, dear yes but it was expertly prepared and it tasted great.
Id say the thing i was least satisfied with here would be the facilities- definitely in need of an update in my opinion. The pool area didn't scream cleanliness to me, parts of it were visibly grimy and i didnt want to stay in it for long. Unfortunately the hotel were having problems with the jacuzzi temperature so when i got in it, it was freezing cold, i was so disappointed! the leisure facilities looked a lot better in the pictures definitely.
Despite the negatives, I would stay here again, the food alone is a reason to return, I loved the decor and the piano playing in the evening in the bar was really lovely. The girls at reception were polite, professional and friendly, both checking in and out was a breeze.
