Laguna Seca Raceway, or Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, as it is now known near Monterey, California was built originally in 1957 for automobile and motorcycle racing. It has gone through a few changes and in its present configuration is 2.238 miles in length.

One of the unique features of this road course is the 300 foot elevation change. Another is the dual corner named, the Corkscrew, which are turns 8 and 8a at the high point of the circuit. Entry to these turns are from an uphill straight and it requires heavy breaking to the first sharp left turn with a blind apex. As you turn, the road drops away and you quickly make another sharp right turn as you plunge downhill towards a long sweeping left.

Watching the racing here is also pretty unique for a road course. From the large hill which the track goes around you can see most of the action. Don’t forget to take lawn chairs or a blanket to sit on. On race weekends you will find plenty of food and souvenirs.

This road course has been used on many of the video games sold today and play on the games is very close to actually driving the course accept that you don’t have the fear factor.

There is a race car driving school at the track and it operates all year long. Camping facilities both dry and hook-up are also available year round.
