With the uncharacteristic chill in Mumbai’s air on Monday, the thought of reporting to work the next day didn’t sound appealing to me. So, faking a headache, a couple of friends and me decided to beat the blues and head to Lonavala for a quick mid-week getaway (yeah! I know the week had just begun… but then a cool climate isn’t something that happens to Mumbai everyday!).

Having driven for the better part of the morning we reached bright and early, in time to enjoy the fog which was still lingering. First stop had to be at the renowned and now not-so-humble Ramakrishna for our morning cuppa and some steaming butter idlis.

Having filled our tummy, we drove on, away from the market, towards the mountains and came upon a sprawling resort –Lagoona Resort. We liked what we saw and decided to explore further. The best part about Lagoona is its location – not too close to the noise and chaos of the market place and not too far from the sightseeing spots. We decided to pick the room with the best view – the Lagoona Suite. I loved the fact that the suite was warm and cozy. As promised the view was beautiful – a quaint lagoon dotted with pretty potted plants and a terrace above it, (which I later discovered they used for barbeque parties). One could also see the mountains directly from the balcony. In addition to the swimming pool, they even had activity rooms for carom, table tennis, pool tables etc.

A true foodie, my prime concern, besides the view, was variety and quality of the cuisine offered here. So lunch at Patio, their 24-hour coffee shop, was hugely satisfying for me as they had an elaborate buffet. Dinner was more exotic with steaming Burmese and Thai curries… perfect for a chilly evening.

For us, the resort scored high on service, ambience, quality and value for money… what more could we ask for. All in all Lagoona is a good experience with a little something for everyone in the family.
