Lago d'Orta Novara Reviews
The Island of Silence Mar 03, 2011
It was one of ordinary weekend during this winter season. We wanted to do and see something that we can't in the city, so we decided to go here in Lago d'Orta which was also famous for its little Island of Silence. There was only one path that leads the island. There were massive monasteries inside and the villas outside. The path is called "The way of Silence." There were little boards posted every 50 metres which says something about the value of silence. No one is allowed to talk or make any noise, also as a respect to other tourist and seminarians.
The legend of this island tells that before, the only ihabitants of this island were serpents and dragons then in 390 San Giulio landed and he drove them away. He built a church in which then he chose to be buried destined to become, after a long series of transformations, the church today.
This place is really worth a visit.

THE SMALL GEM OF ORTA Jun 04, 2011
This place is a romantic destination or perhaps is its quiet atmosphere which gives a sensation of peace, while places on the shores of the close Lago Maggiore are busier and crowded.
There is a Sacred Mountain (which is included on the Unesco list) on the top of the hill overlooking the tiny lake whit chapels scattered around a church with a beautiful terrace. From the balcony you can enjoy the best view of the lake.
A paved path leads you to the hamlet of Orta which is a lovely place.
Its most important square, called Piazza Motta, is just in front of the islet which is the symbol of the lake. Ferries take you on the island.
