the oldest bar in the US Feb 19, 2012
At the corner of Bourbon and St Phillip Street, Lafitte's is known as the oldest bar in the United States. The structure itself was built some time between 1722 and 1732 being the oldest structure being used as a bar in the US. Some say it's haunted but most agree it's a great vibe to grab a drink. Locals will even tell you it's the best Hurricane in town even though Pat O'Brien's is probably more well known. Another touristy drink of theirs is the Voodoo Daiquiri which is basically a spiked purple slush served in a styrofoam cup. Lafitte's is a dimly lit dive bar with personality and atmosphere. It has a good blend of tourists as well locals and is a great game day bar to catch a game...definitely worth checking out.
