Worth the hike! Mar 27, 2011
Laem Singh Beach was one of my dream destinations after much research before heading to Phuket. I just needed to check out if the beach really had soft sand and crystal clear waters... It was no surprise!! Laem Singh Beach was truly that! Situated in a rather difficult place to get by (if you have no vehicle), it was worth the hike from Surin Beach (by the main road!).

Laem Singh Beach was a lot like what you'd imagine if you had a private beach. You needed to hike down from the entrace, I took the shorter, but REALLY steep hike down. Bad idea to be carrying a lot of things! I suppose the longer route but less steep would have been more ideal. Nevertheless, the steeper route was great, it allowed you to walk by the cliff, scary as it was, the water and view was breathtaking! The steeper route is close to the fishing spot and restaurant.

Once at the beach, securing a beach chair is tough if you come late, say before lunch. 100bhat for a day's worth of renting the lounge chair was worth it. The snorkle gear rental also cost about that much.

The beach truly was breathtaking, fine white sand and the water so clear! There were some fishes to look at while snorkling, but the corals were rather dull/or bleached. By evening, some boats from neighbouring islands would come by and drop their passengers for a short swim. That's when the water sports would come alive suddenly.

There was an outdoor shower, which was quite interesting. They connected a really long pipe along the cliff for a make-shift shower area.

If you came without transport, I strongly suggest leaving before the sun goes down. It wasn't easy getting a ride back to where ever as the tuktuks or (way overpriced) taxis don't usually stop by there. So that's how the story went on how I ended up walking back to Surin Beach by the main roadside.

Oh, and if you're taking a tuktuk from Surin Beach, 100 Bhat for a ride to Laem Singh Beach is way too much for a 2-3 minute ride! Bargain is the key!
