Lady Anne Middleton's Hotel York Reviews
Last minute cheapness in a great location Apr 12, 2010
Going to York was a lastminute.decision, and so my girlfriend found this hotel online. We paid next to nothing for the room, and the hotel promised to be inside the York City Walls, and close to all the main tourist attractions.
Finding the hotel car park proved a challenge the satnav sent us round the houses, river, walls and practically everything else.
Once in, the hotel turned out to be a series of different buildings linked by covered walkways. There was a gym and pool, restaurant and bar. And a well. Covered over, but still a well. Inside. Each to their own...
Our room was on the ground floor of an original building. It was more a suite, a lounge with chairs and TV; then bathroom with a double bed separately to one side.
The bed was comfy enough - a bit small for a double. The furniture was the amusing flat pack 'couldn't stand a sneeze kind', which rendered it almost completely pointless for any task.
My girlfriend chilled out with a quality British soap, I went a read a book by the well.
We ate in the restaurant on the second evening - the food was lovely but pricey, and the service was quite slow.
Overall, the hotel was a bargain for the price we paid; and the location in Skeldergate means you're just over the Ouse from all the tourist attractions and inside the walls. In fact, one section of the walls ends right next to the hotel which makes for a more interesting walk home.
