Ladner Overview

The area known as Ladner was originally inhabited by the Tsawwassen Band of the Salish Indians.

The area was first sighted by Spanish explorer Francisco Eliza in 1791. He thought the area was an island and named it Isla Capedia.

During 1800's a gold rush brought settlers to the area to pan for treasure. Many settled in the area that didn’t make their fortune in gold.

In 1873 wharf was built so farmers could ship produce to urban markets. The waterfront to this day has stayed the centrepiece to the town.

Every other Sunday from June through September, Ladner’s Village Market happens in the village centre. Everything from arts and crafts line the streets. Live music gives a festive air. The fresh local produce brings many people each weekend when the market is open.

With less than 20 kms from the city of Vancouver, Ladner is a great place to do some shopping or people-watching.
