La Woods Hotel Chennai Reviews
New hotel in a central location near a major mall in Chennai Jan 16, 2016
La Woods is a new hotel near Anna Salai (Mount Road) in Chennai. Too new, in fact, that not all taxis, rickshaws are familiar with the address, or even the name. It is a small hotel with less than a hundred rooms over a few stories, just off the main road on a relatively busy one way street. Hence it is ideal for business travelers but still suited for those who want a clean place not far from a mall. Express Mall is located less than 20 minutes walk away, and this allows for a variety of cuisines, not to mention a supermarket.
The hotel's restaurant is open until 11PM, so those who arrive late can still manage to grab a bite in case the nearby mall is closed. The restaurant staff are friendly and polite. On our first night we got the promo for buy 2 get 1 free chicken biryani, which was way more than what most people could have for a meal. In the mornings there is a fair selection of mostly Indian dishes for breakfast, but quite limited in western fare save for eggs and chicken sausages.
The room, while a bit small, is modern and full of amenities. There is a Sony 32" LED TV located just above the desk which doubles as a small dining table. Every day, two bottles of water are provided which you can use for coffee or tea, or chill in the mini cooler before taking out when touring the city. There is ample packaged coffee, creamer, sugar and tea condiments although they aren't as good as brewed coffee.
The bathroom has its own share of mirrors and glass partitions, plus they are generous with shampoo and conditioner. As with most rated hotels in India, there is a bidet for washing up after responding to the call of nature.
As it is a small hotel, there is no driveway space and parking is limited. Wifi is also not as strong in the common areas except near the lobby and restaurant, as well as in the room. There are elevators but if you're on the first floor (which is the floor above the ground floor), there is not much need for the elevator.
Overall, this is a highly recommended hotel given the very reasonable price of about $40-50 per night.
