La Salteñita Lima Reviews
Tasty Bolivian Pastries in Lima - La Salteñita May 07, 2009
This is a small chain with 2 locations in Lima, 1 in Arequipa and another one in Cusco. Is a small restaurant, more like a snack bar. You notice, they serve Bolivian food, since they have posters of Boliva on the walls. The interior is very simple. Just a couple of small tables with colored benches. So laid back.
Salteñas are original from Bolivia. They are very similar to empanadas but the bread is sweet and the stuffing very juicy. Although empanadas are common in the whole continent, finding good salteñas here was quite a challenge. In Bolivia you can find salteñas with beef, chicken, pork, etc. But here just with beef, at least when we went there.
They are the perfect snack. Since the filling is so juicy and hot, I highly recommend you to eat them the Bolivian style, which is using a spoon. Just dig a hole, eat the stuffing and eat the bread at the end. The stuffing is a bit spicy and full of flavor.
They were really great, now I understand why so many people came just to buy some and take away.
