La Quinta Inn & Suites JFK Airport

This was a great bargain choice for short layover and flight cancellation in NY. The free airport shuttle picked me up from the Airtran shuttle stop in less than 10 minutes. I used the courtesy phone to call for pick up instead of just waiting like most people seemed to do. Front desk staff was especially friendly. After checking in, the staff called the room to make sure the room was fine, and to see if there was anything else I needed.

The décor was surprisingly modern, stylish, and new for a well priced hotel next to a run-down gas station. There must have been a recent renovation. My room was streetside, but traffic noise while present was low enough it was almost lulling. The only downside was the chemical Pinesol smell and the sticky floor, but it was clean with a great layout of bed, desk, free wifi, flat screen tv, small refridgerator, granite countertop in bathrooms, and etc. The neighborhood was so-so, but it’s barely noticeable for those needing an airport hotel. For me the best part was that the hotel allows pets (yay!), and the beds were Tempurpedic!! So comfortable! Every hotel should have one!

Didn’t use the hotel gym, but the free breakfast next morning was decent. Breakfast lounge area looked bland standard issue hotel, and smelled like waffles from the wafflemaker, but the hard boiled eggs, apples, coffee, juice, rather unhealthy pastries wasn’t bad at all. Hotel wasn’t full, but there were a few others so it didn’t seem quite so empty hotel eerie. Another student en route to Africa for a semester, couples on layover, etc. I made sure to book a spot on the shuttle back to the airport in the morning so as to arrive on time but it’s so close anyway. Thumbs up overall.
