La Perla Restaurant Marsalforn Reviews
Great Food, Great Location, Great Service Sep 25, 2011
The family had organised lunch at La Perla Restaurant during our visit to Gozo.
The restaurant is situated on the first floor within the Hotel Calypso directly on Marsalforn Harbour. The reason that the family had brought us to this restaurant is due to the fact that every Sunday throughout the year they hold an all you can eat buffet for the price of 23 euros. Given that this is extremely popular amongst both the locals and tourists it is essential that you book a table.
On entering the first floor restaurant the first thing that hits you is the breathtaking view over Marsalforn Harbour and further out the Mediterranean sea. The decor is minimalistic, everything is gleaming white and sparkling clean. Tables are set with an array of cutlery and glasses catering for all the courses that await your taste buds.
Once seated a waiter attended to our drinks order and then informed us to help ourselves to the first course of many. I have never seen such an array of dishes. You name it, it was probably on offer somewhere around the table. Seafood dishes, cold meats, rices, couscous, pickles, olives, capers, salads, sauces, noodles, too much to mention really, the smells and tastes were wonderful.
Second course consisted of soup, two varieties on offer, chicken and sweetcorn or vegetable.
Third course was an Asian style menu, offering noodles, spring rolls, satay sticks and meatballs.
Fourth course was a selection of roasted meats - choose from either roast beef, roast chicken, pork or fish (or have a bit of everything) this was served with a selection of various potatoes and vegetables.
Fifth course was dessert, the Maltese tend to have a wide selection of different cakes cut into very small squares enabling you to try lots of different styles, including cheesecakes, fruit cakes, chocolate cakes and sponge cakes there was also a selection of fresh fruit kebabs, various mousses and even a warm pudding served with custard.
If you still could move after indulging in all this there was a cheeseboard selection too with various cheeses, crackers, biscuits and pickles to indulge in.
We had two children aged 18 mths & 9 mths seated with us and sometimes when dining out you get the feeling that the staff just want you to eat up and leave before the kids cause chaos or start disturbing the peace. The waiting on staff here were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. There was a small corner sectioned off for children to serve themselves from the children's menu.
I have to say that the Maltese do seem to like their food. Service was wonderful, the quality of the food excellent, tastes and textures were simply outstanding a truly wonderful dining experience in every way.
Would definitely recommend a visit to this restaurant and will definitely be returning at some point.
