A Potato Fit for the Kings Mar 06, 2010
In the gardens of Versailles Palace lies a hidden foodie treat. Look for a food stand near the Grand Canal called La Parmentier de Versailles, whose name may be based on a French potato recipe.

Selling delicious baked potatoes to both locals and tourists alike, La Parmentier is manned by two super friendly staff. Flavors include salmon, tomato and egg, ham and cheese, beef, chicken curry and coleslaw. Served piping hot on a bed of lettuce, this meal hits the spot on a cold day. I ordered the ham and cheese and this was easily one of the best baked potatoes I've ever had. Food is served to go and both locals and tourists eat their meals on benches in the palace gardens, greedily eyeing each others potatoes.

For six euros, this is one of those treats you just happen upon, but will always remember and link to a place. A little girl from Great Britain liked her potato so much she gave the owners a drawing, labeling it "King of Potatoes".

These gentlemen truly were the "kings of potatoes" as the food was so fresh and tasty. If you are visiting Versailles, look for La Parmentier along the garden paths. You'll be glad you did.
