La Mezquita Reviews

Beautiful Mosque turned Cathedral Sep 13, 2008
One of the most iconic images of Andalusia is the arches of the La Mezquita in Cordoba and it really beats any picture taken of the place! The vastness and repetitions of the designs make for a beautiful backdrop! It also didn't hurt that I captured one of the prettiest sunsets just a couple of metres away! Definitely visit the site before 10am as its free then!

Want to know a secret about La Mezquita? If you don't intend to pick up one of those brochures, you can get in for free before 10am! They won't kick you out, so if you arrive at 9:30am, you're good to go.

Yes, the cheapie visitor that I am couldn't even begin to think of spending the 8 or 9 Euros for admission. There were two of us, so it would have been 16!

The Mezquita is one of the oldest mosques in the world. It was built in the 8th century and later was taken over by the Christians. Luckily, it was not destroyed, but rather converted for the purposes of a church!

The  Mezquita is the highlight of Cordoba as it is one of the oldest Mosques in the world; built in the 8th century then later took over by the Christains in the 10th century, the Christain king thought it was beautiful and chose not to destroy it and actually built a church inside it.  It's quite unique becuase you have two totally clashing religions in one spot and it is the most spectacular sites I've ever seen.  The admission is quite pricey, 8 euros, but it is worth it (no student discount).  I actually visited this place 3 times.  Be careful of the gypsies hanging around this area.
