La Maison des Canuts Lyon Reviews
A living museum about Lyon's silk industry Oct 07, 2010
After my lunch yesterday in the close Saveurs de Py restaurant,I had a glance at the Maison des canuts(silkworkers),a must go after the unique Lyon Textile Museum for people who want to know more about the Lyon's silk industry which began in the 15th and 16th centuries. This place located on the Croix-Rousse plateau,an area built in the XIX to welcome the silkweavers workshops displays several looms, posters,a weaving demonstration..and houses a silk shop(reliable stuff but a lil updated ties!)
The best thing to do is to follow one of the 2 daily guided tours at 11:00am and 3:30pm where you'll get explanations on the canuts life, silk history and see loom demonstrations.
opening hours: 10am to 6pm from Tuesday to Saturday
entrance free,guided tours:6 euro,5 for groups,students 3,free under 12
tip:by showing the ticket from the Maison des canuts in the Textile and Decorative Arts museum ,and in the Gadagne museum(a magnificent Renaissance mansion housing a puppet and a Lyon history museum)you get the group fee,a great bargain!
