La Maison Rurale de l’Outre Forêt Kutzenhausen Reviews
Typically Alsatian! Aug 25, 2011
La Maison Rurale de l’Outre Forêt is a charming museum in form of an Alsatian farm located in Kutzenhausen showing how rural life back in the first half of the 20th century was.
As visitor you get some friendly instructions and a map, and here we go: plunge into the past!
Just follow the trail and you’ll discover numerous wonderfully arranged remains of Alsatian traditions.
The half-timbered farm with its authentic and delightful arranged interiors reminds of the simple, hard but also fulfilled life a farmer’s family had back then.
I especially liked this warm atmosphere in the rooms which conveys a feeling of liveliness. The visitors feel as if the house residents have just left for a second to feed the cows or to harvest the corn.
It’s pretty interesting to discover hidden corners such as the on-site distillery and the attic with one thousand and one treasures, the shoemaker’s or the old school.
If you’re interested in browsing properly you should time about 90 minutes. Opening hours at peak season (April to September) are from Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 12pm and from 2pm to 6pm. Whereas there are shortened opening hours during Autumn and Winter.
I recommend a visit at Maison Rurale because that’s a neat museum making the regional way of life come alive for all generations.
