La Locanda di Orsaria Venice Reviews
comfort in Venice Dec 17, 2009
This has to be one of the best hotels in all of Venice for those of us who were in need of just a place to sleep. The small 15 room hotel is run by some of the friendliest people I had met on my entire trip.
The place was so easy to find. It was no more than a 4 minute walk, with luggage, to the property. Exit the station turn left go a street turn left and it is right there on your right.
The lobby is very small and so is the counter. You are warmly greeted when you arrive and then are given your room. They explain that there is free internet available. I was pretty excited about that because I had not brought my computer with me. The computer is right in the lobby, so there is no privacy. The stairs take you to the clean rooms. Nothing fancy, but very very clean. Everything is in its place. A TV, a nice dresser, a chair nice bed with two pillows, finally, more than one pillow, a very clean bathroom with space to turn around are all included in the reasonably price room.
Off season has to be the best time to visit here. I all could think about is all the mosquitoes that must lurch around each evening. Going to the window, I saw screens that would not allow a gnat to go through. The television did have cable, but I didn’t have much time to watch it.
The room rate includes a very great breakfast. Fresh rolls and croissants, meats cheeses, cereal, juices and fresh brew coffees and other items greet you each morning starting at 7:30am. All of this in a nice room with each table set with utensils and a cup. It felt very personal, more like a bed and breakfast.
The owner, whose name has slipped me, was eager to have a conversation with anyone who would talk to him. His conversations were in about three different languages at one time. He had a wealth of information about the mafia and it’s royalty that comes to Venice each year. He knew a lot about world politics and had some great information to share. He was very eager to share information about the city and how best to get around and see the most in a short time. He also took time to walk me throughout the property and tell me the history of the building. The property dates back to the 16th century and was built in the traditional Venetian style. He wanted to show me every room and the antique wood in the exposed ceiling beams.
