La Guardia Havana Reviews
A must do experience Jul 06, 2009
A bit more expensive than some of the other restaurants in Havana, this is still a "must" in Havana.
La Guarida is in the middle of the slums, and lies between two buildings that looks to be bombed. The entrance is a bit "anonymous" but take a taxi and you'll find it without any problems.
You'll have to go up to the 3rd floor I think it was, passing through what was an old mansion that now is neglected and collapsed. Clothes hanging to dry everywhere. :)
The food is excellent and the interior is amazing. The restaurant has several pictures inside of Hollywood celebrities that has visited this famous restaurant.
Recommend you get a reservation before you go here as it's usually full. We didn't get an reservation, so we had to sit in the waiting room for about 90 minutes before there was a table available. But the wait was definitively worth it.
The restaurant has had several good reviews in both newspapers and the Lonely Planet guide.
Do visit this place. You will not regret it.
We left the restaurant as they closed... We forgot where we were and should have ordered a taxi. Instead we had to walk all the way back to our hotels from the narrow ill lit streets. Do not do this alone, we were 3 people and wished we were more as we got several offers for drugs, women and other things. Didn't feel quite safe, but we made it without any incident.
