New, with good food and service Mar 24, 2013
We have not had much luck in finding a good replacement for our favorite Mexican Restaurant since it had a fire and had to close last year. But last weekend we finally found another nice place to have some of our favorite foods, at least until our old favorite reopens.

This one, La Fiesta, is located in a very new area of town on the extreme north east corner of the developed city. There are lots of brand new homes, and a large shopping center here where they have made their home. When you first drive up it appears to be a rather small location, but then when you walk up you realized that it covers what could have been four parts of this building. And the entrance is through an arch and around on a different side. The very northern side also has outdoor seating for bar and eating guests. Inside you are greeted by a hostess who shows you to your table in one of the several rooms. I don’t know what the capacity is but it must be near a hundred.

It turns out that the owner here is the same person who opened her first location 25 years ago in Hanford, and another in Tulare several years later. We have been several times to the Hanford location over the years and usually have to wait at least a half an hour for a table, which I guess the owner decided she would try to get around here by making this location much larger.

The floor is a very nice and colorful marble and the colors used in the walls are bold and bright colors and maroon and green. The menu is large and includes as many things as you can imagine. The prices are quite reasonable for the area. I saw several dishes being served that I would love to try, including shrimp, fish, other slightly less common Mexican dishes than we normally see. But I was there for my standard enchiladas, rice, beans and salad. And I was quite pleased that they served Pepsi for their soft drink.

Being a Friday evening near seven p.m. the place was packed with customers and although we got right in and received our drinks and chips and dip quickly, we had to wait quite some time for our dinners to arrive. Also, because the place was so crowded with patrons it was a little noisier than we are used to. The enchiladas were prepared more like tacos rather than rolled up. Here they laid the hot corn tortilla out, filled it with ground beef and then folded it over and added the sauce, and plenty of cheese over the top. They were very good. The rice was nicely cooked and the beans actually had beans in them, rather than the usual refried beans that are not quite like beans by the time they are served. The dinners were served on larger than usual platters. And the napkins were nice linen rather that paper.

The bar serves everything you would like to order, from beers and wines to any mixed drink you can imagine.

The hostesses and waitresses were quick and pleasant and ready to offer any help they could.

I think we will return here several times.
