La Coupole Helfaut Reviews
A bunker that could have changed history Aug 03, 2010
A very interesting place that tells you about world war 2 in France, and how it might have affected the outcome.
Be warned though, that for the faint-hearted it might be too much. The story they tell is a true story and fairly uncensored.
It is an enormous bunker built for launching V2 rockets, that looks 'small' from the outside but when inside you gasp at it's size. The biggest part is where you can't see it: underground. Although it's not possible to see all of the bunker (several parts haven't been build actually due to the fact it was never finished because of the end of the war), you get a pretty good glimpse of what it might have been and how it might have affected the end of the war.
You can hear about the technological advances made during this war to establish the V2 rocket (and V1) and how this helped evolve the Space explorations.
The tour includes an audio guided tour, by which you can get information. It is not necessary to listen all of it, because if you don't want to hear it, just walk away and the audio stops.
To me, it was very impressive since I never heard of this place, or realised it ever got so close.
