La Casa del Arbol Rojo Mexico City Reviews
Posada Favorita en DF Jun 22, 2012
La Casa del Arbol Rojo (The Red Tree House) is a wonderful B&B in Colonia Condesa (Hipodromo). It sits on a quieter street (Culiacan) in the pedestrian Condesa area of Mexico City. It is so inviting that you may be reluctant to leave to explore what the fabulous city of DF has to offer.
Condesa is very walkable with a couple of parks, many restaurants and small shops lining the shaded streets. RTH is in the middle of it all. Transportation is easy to find: the metro, metrobuses, peseros and taxis are all available close by. Condesa is also a good location from which to explore the rest of the city.
I finally got the chance to check the RTH out in June 2012. They book up a few months in advance, so make reservations early. We got lucky that they had had a cancellation, and were able to book rather last minute. I had been missing out!
We arrived late, around 11pm, but it wasn't an issue. We were pleasantly greeted and taken to our room; through the main house, then the courtyard and up some stairs to the room Suenos. (We took a side trip to Xalapa and stayed in Gardenia when we returned. It's a bit larger than Suenos and has a balcony.) Although small, the room was inviting and cozy with a warm colour palate. Enjoyed the art on the walls. Beside the bed and side tables, the room also had a splitter (AC), small tv, and sitting area. The bathroom was also small (especially the sink), but not so terribly small as to be uncomfortable. Soap, shampoo and a hair dryer were all provided. We were pleased with our accommodations. Also, if you pay in cash, the room rate is discounted.
Breakfast is included and shouldn't be missed - it's great! Offered every morning are: freshly squeezed juice, plenty of coffee, churros, fresh fruit and a different main dish every morning (something mexican), in addition to the breads, cereals, yogurts, etc. It's also a good time to meet the other guests - there was always an interesting conversation to be had! A social / happy hour is also offered (complimentary) in the evenings. It's a great way to wind down after a long day or start winding up for a good night out.
The staff, ever present but not invasive, was eager to assist and interact with the guests. We enjoyed getting to know quite a few of them and they made our stay much more memorable. Hope to see them on a future trip.
This place puts you at ease and feels like you're returning to your home after a day spent wandering the bustling streets of the city. This will be the place I return to on future visits to the city and where I will recommend anyone coming to the city to stay - there is no place better!
