Safe hostal, down town Sep 23, 2009
In Arequipa, ‘the white city’, we were staying three nights in hostal “La Casa de mi Abuela” (Calle Jerusalem 606, Cercado, Arequipa).

Big advantage of this hotel is the location, only six blocks (less than a ten minutes walk) away from the marvellous Plaza de Armas in Arequipa.

The hotel feels very safe (a walled garden with a guard at the closed gate). Nice garden with swimming pool.

I had a rather basic room, with a private terrace, but all rooms are different. Free use of the internet. Money exchange in a cute little hut in the garden! Should have taken a picture of it :-)

Buffet style breakfast at the terrace. Nice spot!

A peaceful city hotel Sep 24, 2009
La Casa de mi Abuela is a spacious and "green" city hotel with an excellent location only 6 blocks or about 10 minutes' walk from the Plaza de Armas.

From the street it looks like one buidling, which is safely guarded by a gate and a little gate man, but it actually hosts a large walled area behing the main building with several side buildings and a nice garden.

My room on the top floor of a side building was clean but very noisy and had a seventies look to it.

The bathroom was really tiny with no chance to close the door and sit at the toilet at the same time. So far for privacy in case this room would be used as double!

Another con was the smell of the sewers coming from the bathroom, so I had to keep the door closed at all times.

The wash basin was oddly placed outside the bathroom, into the main bedroom.

I had no hot water two consecutive days, which was solved after a few calls to the reception. It turned out the main boiler was simply switched off!!

Lovely breakfast in the courtyard with a nice selection.

There is a punctual laundry service as well as a small library where one can exchange books.
